First Time?
First time climbers ages 14 and older will need to go through a lesson to learn safety, knots, and belaying (how to hold the ropes) before climbing.* This lesson takes about one hour and is given on a first come first serve basis. Kids ages 8 – 13 will participate in the first 15 minutes of the lesson and kids under 8 will not participate in the lesson. It is often helpful to bring along a nonparticipating or belay certified adult to help keep an eye on younger kids while adults are occupied in the lesson.
Planet Rock staff is not available to belay climbers.
The next time you climb at Planet Rock you will need only to purchase a day pass and rent the gear you need for the day. Once you have completed a belay lesson at Planet Rock, you may repeat it any time in the future for free.
If you are an experienced climber, a Planet Rock instructor will happily check out your knot tying and belaying skills any time for a small fee of $3.

Starter package includes: daily pass, basic instruction, shoe rental, harness rental, chalk bag rental, belay device rental and one free daily pass to use within 30 days.
Some things you should know before climbing at Planet Rock:
- The minimum age to climb is 5 years old (3 for ABC for Kids participants)
- Climbers must be at least 14 to belay (hold the ropes)
- Climbers 15 and under must have adult supervision
- To climb at Planet Rock you must sign a Planet Rock waiver.
- Climbers age 17 and under must have a parent or legal guardian sign our waiver.
We require that you sign a waiver before climbing.

*Please note, if you are visiting Planet Rock for the first time please arrive at least 2 ½ hours before closing. This will allow plenty of time for you to take the lesson and still have time to enjoy your climbing experience!
