What are you capable of?
This week’s blog comes complete with a handy dandy link at the bottom, directing you to check out an episode of NPR’s “Radiolab”. It examines the known limits of human potential, and the different discoveries surrounding the research into how to break those limits and push new boundaries.
It got me thinking. What are we all REALLY capable of? How many times in your life have your shattered a perceived weakness/limitation without even noticing? It seems we all have the potential to switch off the part of our brain that says “Nope. Not today. You can’t do that.” We’ve all done it, and will someday do it again. The trick is how do we do it?
I think it’s all about trust. Trust in our selves, and in our abilities. Self-confidence is earned through trial and error. It comes from falling off the same problem 100 times and still giving it “go # 101.” It comes from always going for what we love and believe in, no matter how hard it is to deal with the consequences of those choices.
People can do all the research they want, and point to physiological structures in the brain or body that limit us. I will always believe that we have the power to transcend all that holds us back and truly redefine our potential, as individual people and as a species.
